Day One: Today I Turned 66… and I Chose Hope Over Fear
There are birthdays that make you smile.
There are birthdays that make you reflect.
And then there are birthdays that quietly whisper, "It's time."
Today, I turned 66 years old.
Instead of celebrating with a big party, I made a decision that may change the rest of my life.
Today, I am beginning a journey that I hope will inspire others—and keep me accountable. I am going to document, one step at a time, how I build retirement income before I fully retire next year.
I don't know exactly how the story will end.
But I know how it begins.
It begins today.
Why I'm Sharing This Publicly
Like many people approaching retirement, I've asked myself some difficult questions.
Will I have enough?
Can I still create something meaningful at this stage of life?
Is it too late to start over? To share valuable lessons I've learned in life in the process?
For a while, fear tried to answer those questions.
But faith answered louder.
I believe that God is never surprised by our circumstances, and He never stops giving us opportunities to grow, serve, and create. If He has given me another day, then He has also given me another purpose.
So instead of quietly wondering "what if," I'm choosing to take action.
I'm Not Coming as an Expert
You won't find someone here claiming to have all the answers.
I'm not documenting the end of a success story.
I'm documenting the beginning.
I'll share the victories, the setbacks, the lessons, the mistakes, the numbers I'm comfortable sharing, and the small wins that remind me progress is possible.
Some days will be exciting.
Some days may be discouraging.
But every day will be honest.
What You Can Expect Here
Over the coming months, I'll be sharing what I'm learning about:
- Building retirement income online
- Creating simple digital products
- Growing a blog and YouTube channel
- Living with purpose after 65
- Faith during seasons of uncertainty
- Stewardship, gratitude, and financial wisdom
- Living well—physically, spiritually, and financially
- Finding joy in starting over
Whether you're approaching retirement, already retired, or simply wondering what's next in your own life, I hope you'll find encouragement here.
This Is More Than Money
Yes, I want to build additional retirement income.
But this journey is about something much deeper.
It's about proving—to myself and perhaps to someone reading this—that our most meaningful chapters don't always happen when we're young.
Sometimes they begin after 60.
Sometimes after 65.
Sometimes on an ordinary birthday when we decide to trust God more than our fears.
One Life to Live Well
I've been thinking a lot about what it means to live well.
Not perfectly.
Not richly by the world's standards.
But faithfully.
Purposefully.
Gratefully.
We are each given one life without a user's manual. My prayer is to use mine well —to encourage others, continue learning, create things that help people, and leave behind more hope than worry.
If you're also beginning a new chapter, no matter your age, I would be honored if you joined me.
Let's learn together.
Let's grow together.
Let's trust God together.
And one day, we'll look back at this very first post and smile because we had the courage to begin.
Welcome to Day One.
The journey starts today.
With faith.
With hope.
And with the belief that it's never too late for God to write a beautiful new chapter.
I'd love to hear from you. If you're starting over in any area of your life—or simply cheering from the sidelines—leave a comment and introduce yourself. Let's build a community that reminds one another that the best is not always behind us. Sometimes, it's still ahead.
